Fall senior pictures are a magical way to celebrate a milestone while enjoying the beauty of autumn in New England. For Andie’s session, we took an unforgettable trip down memory lane, visiting the campuses that shaped her from elementary school to high school.
As a Boston senior photographer, capturing this unique idea was both exciting and deeply personal. Andie and I had a built-in connection because I had the honor of photographing her brother Tyler’s engagement photos and wedding photos.
Working with her family again felt like a reunion of sorts—and what a beautiful one it was!
Andie’s vision was inspiring. She wanted her senior pictures to reflect her entire educational journey, a perfect tribute to her growth and hard work.
Her thoughtful approach aligned perfectly with my passion for creating personalized, heirloom-quality images that tell a story.
Andie’s senior session started with crisp fall air, burgundy leaves, and the kind of light that makes everything feel timeless.
Her first stop was her elementary school, where she posed in a little nook of the schoolyard where she often read books.
At her middle school, we embraced the beautiful background, capturing moments as Andie reminisced about her pre-teen years. Andie’s middle school has a beautiful willow tree, so I just had to use it as a backdrop!
Finally, we visited her high school, where the excitement of senior year was palpable in every frame.
Every location brought its own charm and emotions, but what tied them all together was Andie herself. She radiated joy and a bittersweet anticipation for what’s next. Capturing these emotions and weaving them into her Boston senior pictures made this session incredibly special.
Believe it or not, I recommend the same color palette regardless of season. Neutrals like beige, cream, soft grays, and earthy tones work beautifully in fall settings.
These colors are timeless, flattering, and create a light, romantic feel that lets you shine.
For Andie’s session, she chose a timeless navy blue outfit that complimented the rich autumn hues around us. Even though blue isn’t technically a neutral, it feels so timeless, so it’s a color I see during many of my sessions!
Of course, what’s most important is that seniors feel comfortable and confident. If bold colors are your style, we’ll find a way to make them work!
Avoid bright or neon colors for your senior session. They can create odd lighting effects, called color casts, that make your skin tone look unnatural.
Imagine how distracting a neon yellow hoodie would be in your Boston graduation photos or fall senior pictures—it pulls focus from your face and the beauty of the moment. Trust me, sticking to more subdued shades will elevate your pictures to heirloom quality.
This is completely up to you! I recommend 2-3 outfits to strike a balance between variety and efficiency. If you want to bring more, we can make it work, but remember: changing outfits takes time, and that can limit the number of pictures we capture.
Andie brought one classic outfits, which allowed us keep the session moving smoothly. Since we were moving between three different locations, this was the perfect choice!
A favorite outfit keeps it simple, and that’s perfectly fine too. It’s all about what makes you feel like you.
October is a fantastic time for senior pictures, especially in Massachusetts!
However, if you need an image for your yearbook, it’s essential to plan ahead. Most yearbooks require submissions in the fall, so I recommend scheduling your session at least six weeks before the deadline. This gives you plenty of time to receive your gallery, select your favorite image, and handle the paperwork stress-free.
For seniors like Andie, who didn’t need to worry about the yearbook, October provided the perfect backdrop of peak fall foliage for her Boston senior pictures.
If you’re dreaming of vibrant fall colors, October is typically your best bet in Massachusetts. Mid-October tends to be peak foliage season, but this can vary slightly year to year. I like to consult the trusty Farmer’s Almanac for insights into when the leaves will be their most spectacular.
If you schedule your session too early, you might miss those iconic autumn hues. Too late, and the trees might look bare. Andie’s session was timed just right to catch the glowing yellows and fiery reds that make fall pictures so timeless.
One perk of living in New England is that every season has its aesthetic beauty. You could never go wrong with a summer session at the beach! And while it does get cold, a snowy winter day feels straight out of a movie.
Andie, thank you for trusting me to capture your senior pictures and for allowing me to help tell the story of your school journey. It’s been a joy watching your family celebrate milestones, from Tyler’s engagement and wedding to your own senior year.
Your creativity and thoughtfulness made this session unforgettable, and I’m so excited for what’s ahead in your next chapter.
If you’re a senior (or a parent of one!) looking for beautiful, meaningful Boston senior pictures, I’d love to work with you. Whether you want to explore sentimental locations, embrace fall foliage, or create something uniquely yours, I’ll help make your vision a reality. Let’s connect and capture your story in a way that will last a lifetime.
