Even though every couple shares the same beautiful property, each reception space has its own personality. Choosing between them isn’t about deciding which one is “better.” It’s about deciding which one feels most like you.

The Harbor Room

If your heart skips a beat every time you picture sailboats, docks, and classic Cape Cod harbor views, the Harbor Room is worth a close look.

One of my favorite things about this space is how connected it feels to Wychmere Harbor. Step outside, and you’re just moments away from one of my favorite portrait locations on the property. The harbor creates a beautiful backdrop that’s peaceful, unmistakably Cape Cod, and a little different from the beach views people often expect.

It’s also one of the reasons I loved photographing Katherine and Brandon’s wedding. Their private boat ride became one of the most memorable parts of the day. It gave them a chance to slow down, take a breath, and spend a few quiet moments together before jumping back into the celebration.

Experiences like that are part of what makes Wychmere so special.

The Ocean Room

The Ocean Room offers a different kind of Cape Cod beauty.

You still get a few glimpses overlooking the harbor, but the main feature is that you’re greeted by wide views of Nantucket Sound and a bright, airy atmosphere that feels open from the moment you walk inside.

It’s elegant without feeling formal.

One of the things I appreciate most about the Ocean Room is how naturally the day flows between indoor and outdoor spaces. Guests can step outside on the deck to enjoy the ocean breeze, then head back inside for dinner and dancing without ever feeling disconnected from the celebration.

Taylor and Griffin’s wedding is a perfect example of this. Their beach ceremony, thoughtful details, and sunset portraits all worked together beautifully because the venue makes moving throughout the property feel effortless.

If your vision includes ocean views, timeless architecture, and an atmosphere that feels both refined and relaxed, the Ocean Room is a wonderful choice.

The Dune Room

I’ll be honest. I haven’t photographed a wedding in the Dune Room yet. It’s firmly at the top of my wedding venue wish list.

Every time I’ve visited Wychmere, I’ve found myself admiring the space. The architecture is beautiful, the getting ready suite is incredible, and the design feels clean, bright, and timeless.

If I could dream up my perfect Dune Room wedding, it would be a black tie celebration in September with lush floral arrangements, a sunset ceremony, and guests lingering over cocktails before dancing the night away.

Hopefully, I’ll get to photograph that wedding someday!

My Best Timeline Advice for Weddings at Wychmere Beach Club

Every wedding day is different, and every couple has different priorities.

That said, after photographing weddings at Wychmere Beach Club, there are a few things I almost always recommend. Not because they create better photographs, although they certainly can. I recommend them because they create a calmer, more enjoyable wedding day.

If It Were My Wedding, I’d Plan Around the Light

For those that have spent any time on my website, this probably won’t surprise you. If I could plan the perfect Wychmere wedding, I’d choose a sunset ceremony every time.

The light is softer, the temperatures are usually more comfortable, and everyone looks their best during one of the most meaningful parts of the day.

Instead of standing in harsh afternoon sunlight, you’ll exchange your vows in beautiful, even light that photographs naturally and feels comfortable for both you and your guests.

Of course, planning a sunset ceremony changes the rest of your timeline. That’s where one of my biggest recommendations comes in.

I’m a Big Believer in First Looks

I know not every couple wants one, and I completely respect that. But if you’re open to it, I think a first look is one of the best decisions you can make for a wedding at Wychmere Beach Club.

A first look gives you time to slow down before the ceremony begins. It’s often one of the only moments during the entire day where you’re simply together without dozens of people watching.

It also allows us to photograph nearly all of your portraits before guests arrive. That means after your ceremony, you can head into cocktail hour, spend time with the people who traveled to celebrate with you, and step away for just a few sunset portraits later in the evening (unless you do have a sunset ceremony; in that instance, I recommend a few quick photos, and then heading to cocktail hour where you’re uninterrupted for the rest of the evening).

To me, that’s the best of both worlds.

You get beautiful photographs without missing the moments you’ve spent months planning.

Save Time for Sunset

If there’s one part of the timeline I never want couples to skip, it’s sunset portraits.

One of my favorite places on the property is the dunes. They’re absolutely worth the short golf cart ride. You don’t need thirty minutes, or even need twenty.

Sometimes ten quiet minutes together while the sun is setting are enough to create some of my favorite photographs of the entire day.

Just as importantly, they’re often the first quiet moments you’ve had since getting married. Many of my couples tell me those few minutes together become one of their favorite memories.

Trust Your Wychmere Coordinator

This may be my most practical piece of advice: trust your Wychmere coordinator.

They’re there for so much more than keeping everyone on schedule!

They know the property inside and out. They’ll help guests move between spaces, coordinate transportation around the venue, and make sure your timeline flows naturally. If you’ve been dreaming about portraits in a certain location or want to include a special experience, simply tell them.

They’ll do everything they can to make it happen.

Some of my favorite wedding day moments at Wychmere happened because the coordinator quietly made them possible behind the scenes.

And, if you happen to have a planner, both will be able to seamlessly work together. The coordinator works with the entire team at Wychmere, so that you can move throughout your wedding venue with ease. Your planner partners with your coordinator while managing your entire vendor team, timeline, and all of the little details that the venue isn’t responsible for.

Stop Checking the Weather

If I could give every Wychmere couple one piece of advice during the week of their wedding, it would be this: stop refreshing the weather app.

Cape Cod weather changes quickly.

I’ve photographed both sunny weddings and cloudy weddings here. Both have been beautiful.

Cloud cover actually creates soft, even light that opens up more portrait locations around the property. Instead of worrying about finding shade, we can focus on creating photographs that feel relaxed and natural.

If the forecast changes, we’ll adjust. That’s my job.

Your only “job” is to soak in every moment of your wedding day and marry the one you love.

Plan for Every Guest

One of the things I appreciate most about Wychmere is that guests have choices throughout the evening.

Some will spend hours on the dance floor. And your introverts will find a quiet spot outside overlooking the water, catching up with family they haven’t seen in years. Lean into that.

And if your budget allows, consider adding something unexpected for everyone to enjoy. One of my favorite additions is a late night snack.

It’s amazing how much energy comes back into the room after guests grab something to eat and head back onto the dance floor. Sometimes it’s the little touches people remember most.

Build your timeline around the experience you want to have, not just the events you want to fit in. The best weddings at Wychmere Beach Club leave room to breathe, connect, and enjoy the people who matter most.

My Favorite Photo Locations at Wychmere Beach Club

One of the reasons I love photographing weddings at Wychmere Beach Club is the variety. You don’t spend your entire day in one place!

Within a few minutes, you can move from the harbor to the beach, from quiet garden paths to rolling dunes, all without leaving the property. Each location has its own personality, which means your gallery feels full of variety while still telling one complete story.

Even better, these locations are close enough that portraits never have to take over your wedding day.

Here are the places I find myself returning to again and again.

The Dunes

If I could choose only one portrait location at Wychmere, it would be the dunes. Every time.

Yes, they require a quick golf cart ride (unless you’re in the Dune Room). And they’re absolutely worth it.

The dunes have a quiet, peaceful feel that’s hard to find anywhere else on the property. Taller beach grass, rolling sand, and wide views create photographs that feel timeless without trying too hard.

This is my favorite place for sunset portraits.

As the light softens, the entire landscape begins to glow. You don’t need to spend half an hour here, either. Even ten minutes is enough to create some of my favorite images of the day while giving you a chance to slow down and enjoy a few peaceful moments together.

Those few minutes often become about much more than photographs.

Wychmere Harbor

The harbor is one of the most overlooked portrait locations.

It’s technically just beyond the main property, but it’s only a short walk away and offers one of the most recognizable Cape Cod backdrops you’ll find.

If you’re celebrating in the Harbor Room, this location becomes even more meaningful because your venue is visible in the background.

I especially love bringing couples here who want that classic Cape Cod feel without standing directly on the beach.The boats, docks in the distance, and the calm water create a completely different atmosphere while still feeling unmistakably coastal.

The Dock

There’s something wonderfully simple about the dock.

No elaborate setup or dramatic scenery. Just the two of you surrounded by water.

It’s one of my favorite places for natural, relaxed portraits because couples tend to slow down here. They aren’t thinking about posing. They’re taking in the view, talking, laughing, and enjoying a quiet moment together.

Those are often the photographs that end up feeling the most personal.

The Beach

Of course, we can’t talk about weddings at Wychmere Beach Club without mentioning the beach itself.

They’re created while walking between locations. We get to peek at the cedar shingle buildings, blooming hydrangeas in July, white trim, and beautiful pathways.
