Ever wondered what a bridal stylist actually does and why you need one? Join us as we dive into the world of bridal stylists and uncover the magic they weave behind the scenes to ensure every bride looks and feels her absolute best on her wedding day.

Lindsay Terranova, the visionary behind The Boston Bridal Stylist, turned a pipe dream into reality by carving out a niche that many brides didn’t even know existed.

It all began when brides, who adored Lindsay’s help in selecting their dream dresses, wished she could be there on their big day.

Recognizing a significant gap in the Boston market, she reached out to her brides, crowd-sourced their needs, and conducted extensive research. The result? A bespoke bridal styling service that meets the unique demands of Boston brides, who, despite their love for classic and clean aesthetics, still crave a touch of fashion-forward elegance.

Lindsay’s journey in the bridal industry began when she was just 18, shortly after completing her freshman year of college, when she started selling wedding dresses.

Her passion for fashion was evident early on, as she dreamed of opening a boutique on Boston’s renowned Newbury Street. Today, her favorite designers include Oscar De La Renta, known for timeless elegance; Monique Lhuillier, celebrated for super romantic designs; and Anne Barge, renowned for clean, classic sophistication with a unique twist.

The Process: What Does a Bridal Stylist Do?

Lindsay’s approach to bridal styling is as unique as each bride she works with. Her full-service styling encompasses everything from finding the perfect dress to the wedding day dressing.

Ideally, the process starts a year and a half before the wedding, after the bride is engaged, has set a date, chosen a venue, and hired a wedding planner.

It begins with an in-depth consultation to understand the bride’s vision for her wedding, her personal style, and day-to-day fashion preferences. Lindsay delves into inspirations, Pinterest boards, fabrications, and necklines, ensuring that every bride feels comfortable and confident. Whether a bride has a clear vision or needs guidance, Lindsay creates a custom lookbook that aligns her ideas with the bride’s dreams. This lookbook is a curated collection of styling ideas, which is refined based on the bride’s feedback.

Next, Lindsay books appointments to try on dresses, accompanying brides and often just one significant person. Of course, each bride is unique, and Lindsay always accommodates however many people the bride finds necessary to accompany her.

During these appointments, Lindsay asks detailed questions and collaborates closely with consultants to ensure selections align perfectly with the bride’s vision.

She is also dedicated to capturing every moment, sometimes taking pictures or videos for brides to review later.

Additionally, Lindsay works extensively with the bridal salon consultants, ensuring that the appointments run smoothly, that the bride’s wishes are honored in each selection, and that the bride thoroughly enjoys her experience.

What Does a Bridal Stylist Do On the Wedding Day?

Lindsay’s role extends far beyond just selecting the dress. On the wedding day, she handles everything from steaming and bustling to prepping the dress and veil for the media team.

Her comprehensive toolkit includes a dress stand, steamer, cleaning kit, and sewing kit, ensuring she’s prepared for any situation.

Lindsay meticulously prepares all attire for the day, helps the bride get dressed, and stages important moments for photographs; Lindsay assists with more complicated styling elements, but she still creates the perfect moment for the mother of the bride or another significant person to step in for the sentimental moments.

She stays on-site, assisting with photos, arranging the train, manipulating the veil, and ensuring the bride looks flawless from the ceremony to the reception.

Her expertise shines through in her ability to fix almost any issue that may arise with the wedding dress. With over 15 years of experience, there’s not much Lindsay can’t handle, from cleaning a dress to fixing tears and correctly steaming without causing water stains or melting fabrics. Her knowledge of every type of bustle ensures a seamless experience, avoiding the need for anyone to figure it out on the spot.

A Personal Touch; Why You Need a Bridal Stylist

Lindsay’s service is often sought after by wedding planners and mothers of the bride, who appreciate the peace of mind she brings. She jokes that her biggest clients are those who have other responsibilities and simply want to enjoy the day.

One memorable anecdote highlights Lindsay’s dedication: During a fast-paced wedding, she noticed that the bride hadn’t had any portrait-style photos taken between her first look and the formals, and the bride was getting ready to head to cocktail hour. Knowing how important these were to the bride, Lindsay stepped in and spoke with the photographer to ensure those portraits happened.

Lindsay Terranova’s role as a bridal stylist is indispensable. Her expertise, passion, and personalized approach ensure that every bride feels beautiful, confident, and cared for on their special day. This allows brides to be fully present with their future spouse, their closest friends, and their families.
