One of the sweetest things about photographing weddings is knowing they aren’t the biggest milestone I’ll celebrate with many of my couples.
Of course, a wedding day is unforgettable. It’s filled with anticipation, joyful tears, and the beginning of a new family. But every now and then, I have the incredible privilege of watching that story continue.
That’s exactly what this session was.
I’ve been photographing Kailyn since her senior portraits, and over the years I’ve had the honor of documenting her engagement, college graduation, wedding day, anniversary sessions, and now these Boston Public Garden maternity photos as she and Brent prepare to welcome their first baby.
Looking through these images, it’s hard not to think about how many chapters we’ve already celebrated together—and how many more are still waiting to be written.
As a photographer, those are the relationships I treasure most. While weddings are at the heart of what I do, one of the greatest gifts of this career is getting to walk alongside my couples long after they’ve said, “I do.” The wedding album isn’t the end of the story. It’s simply the first volume on the shelf.
When Kailyn and Brent told me they were expecting, I couldn’t have been more excited for them. Knowing their personalities and the life they’ve built together over the years, there’s no doubt they’ll be incredible parents. Seeing them step into this new season felt both exciting and familiar, as though we were picking up the story right where we left off.
For their maternity session, the Boston Public Garden couldn’t have been a more fitting backdrop.
With its timeless pathways, elegant bridges, and gardens in bloom, it offers a classic New England setting that never goes out of style. It has a quiet elegance that complements life’s biggest milestones without ever distracting from them, making it one of my favorite locations for couples who want photographs that will feel just as beautiful decades from now as they do today.
These Boston Public Garden maternity photos are about so much more than documenting a baby bump. They’re about celebrating the beginning of a new chapter, honoring the family Kailyn and Brent have already built together, and preserving the anticipation of meeting the little one who will soon make them Mom and Dad.
One of my favorite parts of being a wedding photographer is that sometimes the wedding day isn’t the last time I see a couple; it’s only the beginning.
When I first photographed Kailyn, she was a high school senior with her whole future ahead of her. Years later, I met Brent, and together we celebrated their engagement, their wedding day, and anniversary sessions that marked the life they were building together. Now, standing with them in the Boston Public Garden as they prepare to welcome their first baby, I couldn’t help but think about how much has changed—and how much has stayed beautifully the same.
They’re still the couple who naturally reaches for each other’s hand. They still laugh easily together. Brent still has a way of making Kailyn smile that feels completely effortless. Those familiar moments were all there, but this time there was something new.
Every glance toward her growing belly, every smile shared between them, carried the quiet excitement of knowing their lives are about to change forever.
It’s one of the reasons I believe photographs become more meaningful with time. A single image is beautiful because of what’s happening in that moment. But when you can look back and see years of memories woven together, each session becomes another chapter in a much bigger story.
I often think about how these Boston Public Garden maternity photos will one day be seen through someone else’s eyes. Someday, their little one will flip through these photographs and see two parents who were already completely in love before they ever arrived. They’ll see the anticipation, the joy, and the excitement that surrounded them long before they took their first breath. What feels like waiting today will eventually become part of their family’s history.
That’s one of the reasons I believe so deeply in documenting more than just weddings. Marriage is the beginning of a family, and every season that follows deserves to be remembered just as intentionally. Whether it’s celebrating an anniversary, announcing a pregnancy, or chasing little feet through the grass a few years later, these moments become part of the same legacy.
For me, that’s one of the greatest privileges of this career. I’m not simply creating beautiful photographs, but having a front-row seat to the lives my couples build together long after the wedding day has come and gone.
It’s easy to understand why so many couples choose the Public Garden for portraits. Every season offers something different, but no matter the time of year, the park has a timeless quality that never goes out of style.
That’s one of the reasons I love photographing Boston Public Garden maternity photos here. The location feels elegant without feeling overly formal. There are beautifully maintained gardens, winding pathways, the iconic bridge, and towering trees that create gorgeous backdrops while still allowing the focus to stay exactly where it belongs, on the people in front of the camera.
Another reason I recommend the Public Garden is the incredible variety within a relatively small area. During a single session, we can create images that each have their own feel without ever needing to drive to a second location. One moment we’re surrounded by lush greenery, and a few minutes later we’re walking past classic wrought iron fencing, historic architecture, or colorful seasonal flowers. That variety helps create a gallery that feels complete while maintaining a cohesive, classic look.
For couples who love Boston’s historic charm, it’s also hard to beat the location.
The Public Garden has been part of the city’s landscape for generations, making it a meaningful place to celebrate milestones that will become part of your own family’s history. It’s a setting that feels just as fitting for an engagement session as it does for an anniversary or maternity session, which is one of the reasons I find myself returning here throughout the year.
I also appreciate how naturally the park encourages movement. Rather than staying in one spot, we can stroll along the pathways, pause beneath the trees, or stop at one of the bridges overlooking the lagoon. Those little walks between locations often create some of my favorite moments because couples have the chance to simply be together. Instead of thinking about the camera, they’re talking, laughing, and soaking in the excitement of the season they’re celebrating.
For Kailyn and Brent, the Public Garden was the perfect backdrop.
Its classic beauty reflected exactly what they wanted these photographs to feel like: elegant, joyful, and timeless. Years from now, I don’t want these images to feel tied to a trend or a specific moment in photography. I want them to transport their family right back to this season of anticipation, remembering what it felt like as they counted down the days until they finally got to meet their baby.
That’s ultimately what I hope every gallery becomes. Beautiful photographs are important, but the real goal is creating images that grow more meaningful with every passing year.
One of the questions I hear most often is when maternity photos should be taken. While every pregnancy is different, I generally recommend scheduling your session sometime between 30 and 34 weeks. At that point, your baby bump is beautifully visible, but most moms are still feeling comfortable enough to walk through the park and enjoy the experience.
Timing within the day also makes a big difference.
Whenever possible, I love photographing sessions during the hour before sunset. The softer light creates flattering skin tones, beautiful dimension, and the romantic glow that so many of my couples are drawn to. The Public Garden is lovely at any time of day, but golden hour adds an extra layer of warmth that photographs beautifully.
Sunset allows for amazing light and keeps you out of the sun during the hottest parts of the day. No one needs to be sweating during their maternity photos!
Choosing the right outfit is just as important as choosing the location.
Dresses that have movement tend to photograph especially well because they add softness and elegance as you walk through the gardens. Neutral colors, subtle patterns, and classic silhouettes also help keep the focus on you and your growing family instead of on your clothing. The goal is to create photographs that will still feel timeless years from now.
One practical tip I always share is to bring a comfortable pair of shoes, even if you plan to wear dress shoes or heels in your portraits. The Public Garden is very walkable, but you’ll enjoy the session much more if you can comfortably move between locations before changing into your portrait shoes.
Perhaps my biggest piece of advice is simply to treat your maternity session like a date together.
It’s easy to spend these months preparing the nursery, organizing baby clothes, and checking off long to-do lists.
Your session is a chance to slow down for an evening and celebrate this season before everything changes. Some of my favorite moments happen in between poses when couples are talking about baby names, wondering who their little one will look like, or laughing together as they imagine what life will be like in just a few short weeks.
Those are often the memories that matter most.
Whether you’re planning Boston Public Garden maternity photos or another meaningful portrait session, my goal is always the same. I want you to leave with photographs you’ll treasure for decades, but I also want you to genuinely enjoy the experience of creating them.
Years from now, I hope you remember not only how the photographs looked, but also how it felt to spend an evening celebrating the family you’re becoming.
As much as I loved the beautiful light and timeless setting of the Public Garden, my favorite part of this session had nothing to do with the location.
It was watching Kailyn and Brent step into a season they have been looking forward to for so long.
Throughout the years I’ve photographed them, they’ve always had an easy confidence together. They simply enjoy being together, and that has been true through every chapter of their relationship. This session felt no different.
The only difference was that every conversation, every smile, and every quiet moment between them carried the excitement of knowing that their lives are about to change in the best possible way.
There is something especially meaningful about photographing couples during this season of anticipation. Unlike a wedding day, when every moment is carefully planned and the timeline moves quickly, maternity sessions have a slower pace.
There is time to pause, reflect, and soak in the excitement of what’s ahead. It gives couples the chance to celebrate not just the baby they’re waiting to meet, but the life they’ve already built together.
As I edited these Boston Public Garden maternity photos, I found myself thinking back to all of the sessions we’ve shared over the years. Each gallery captures a different season, but together they tell a much bigger story. Looking through them almost feels like flipping through a family scrapbook, watching one chapter naturally lead to the next.
I hope that years from now, these photographs become even more meaningful to Kailyn and Brent than they are today. I hope they’re pulled out on birthdays, shared with curious little hands asking what Mommy looked like before they were born, and treasured as a reminder of the excitement that filled this season of life.
One of the greatest honors of my job is being invited back to celebrate moments like these.
While weddings will always be at the heart of my business, I love when past couples come back to mark the milestones that follow. It’s a reminder that the wedding day was never the finish line. It was simply the beginning of a beautiful story that continues to unfold, one chapter at a time.
Life has a way of moving faster than we expect.
One day you’re planning a wedding, wondering what married life will look like. Before long, you’re celebrating anniversaries, preparing a nursery, or chasing little feet through the backyard.
Each season feels significant while you’re living it, but it’s often only in hindsight that you realize just how quickly it passed.
That’s why I believe these moments are worth preserving.
Whether you’re celebrating your wedding day or planning Boston Public Garden maternity photos, you’re documenting more than a milestone.
You’re preserving a chapter in your family’s story. Years from now, these photographs become a way to revisit the excitement, anticipation, and joy that surrounded this season. They become part of your legacy, allowing future generations to see where their story began.
If you’re dreaming of timeless, heartfelt portraits that celebrate your growing family while staying true to your unique story, I’d love to help you create images you’ll treasure for decades to come. Whether we’ve worked together before or this is the first chapter we’ll document together, my goal is always the same: to create photographs that feel just as meaningful fifty years from now as they do today.

I typically recommend scheduling your maternity session between 30 and 34 weeks of pregnancy. During this window, your baby bump is usually beautifully defined while you’re still comfortable enough to walk around the Public Garden and enjoy the experience. Every pregnancy is different, so if you’re expecting multiples or have specific medical considerations, your doctor may recommend a different timeline.
I always recommend choosing clothing that feels timeless rather than trendy. Flowing dresses photograph beautifully because they add movement and elegance as you walk through the gardens. Neutral colors, soft pastels, and classic silhouettes help keep the focus on you and your family while complementing the natural beauty of the Public Garden.
Whenever possible, I schedule sessions during the hour before sunset. The soft evening light is incredibly flattering and creates the romantic, timeless look that my clients love. It also tends to be a bit less busy than the middle of the day, allowing us to enjoy more of the garden’s beautiful locations.
While weddings and engagements are the heart of my business, one of my greatest joys is continuing to celebrate the couples I’ve worked with as their families grow. I happily photograph maternity and family sessions for my past wedding and portrait clients because I love documenting each new chapter of their story. At this time, I only accept a limited number of family sessions for previous clients. This allows me to continue serving the families I’ve had the privilege of photographing over the years while keeping my primary focus on weddings and engagements. Maternity sessions with the mom and spouse/partner/other parent are able to schedule without being previous clients.
If the forecast calls for significant rain or severe weather, we’ll simply reschedule for another date. My goal is always to create beautiful photographs while making sure you have a relaxed and enjoyable experience. Massachusetts weather can be unpredictable, so I keep a close eye on the forecast as your session approaches.
Weddings and engagements are the heart of my business, but one of my favorite parts of being a wedding photographer is continuing to celebrate my couples through the years. I love photographing anniversary sessions, maternity sessions, and other milestones for past clients as their families grow. Every now and then, I also have the opportunity to photograph maternity sessions for new families who connect with my timeless, relationship-focused approach.
