There’s something special about Cape Cod beach photos. The salty air, warm summer evenings, and wide-open shoreline have a way of helping couples slow down and simply enjoy being together.

That was exactly what happened during Presley and Aiden’s engagement session.

I’ve known Aiden since he was a baby, so documenting this season of his life felt especially meaningful. Watching someone grow up is one thing. Watching them find the person they want to spend the rest of their life with is something else entirely. Getting to photograph that chapter was an honor!

Presley has visited Cape Cod and New England several times over the years, so this wasn’t her first introduction to the area. Even so, this session gave the two of them a chance to experience a quieter side of the Cape together in a whole new way.

From the moment we started, it was obvious these two weren’t trying to impress each other. They already know each other so well. They laughed constantly, teased one another, and slipped into conversation between photos without even thinking about it. Their friendship came through in every part of the evening, and I have no doubt it will continue to be one of the strongest parts of their marriage.

A Quiet Cape Cod Beach Was the Perfect Setting

Cape Cod has no shortage of beautiful beaches. Some are full of families building sandcastles, others attract crowds hoping to watch the sunset, and many become popular destinations during the summer months.

For Presley and Aiden, they knew a quieter location would fit them much better.

This beach isn’t one I recommend to every couple, and that’s intentional.

Reaching it takes a drive down a narrow dirt road through the woods before finishing with a short walk to the shoreline. It’s peaceful, but it also isn’t the easiest location to access. For the right couple, though, the extra effort is well worth it.

One of my favorite parts of photographing engagement sessions is matching the location to the couple, not the other way around.

Some couples want an iconic Cape Cod lighthouse. Others picture a charming downtown or harbor. Some love the energy of a busy beach filled with summer visitors.

Then there are couples like Presley and Aiden.

They wanted space to laugh, play, and enjoy the evening together without feeling like they had an audience. This quiet stretch of beach gave them exactly that.

Rather than worrying about people walking through the background or waiting for the perfect moment between crowds, we were able to focus on what mattered most: the two of them.

That’s what made these Cape Cod beach photos feel so relaxed.

The Best Engagement Sessions Feel Like Time Together

One of the biggest worries couples share before their engagement session is feeling awkward in front of the camera.

Almost every couple tells me some version of the same thing: “We’re not good at photos.”

The truth is, very few people spend their weekends posing for professional portraits. Feeling a little unsure is completely normal. My goal isn’t to make you memorize poses. It’s to create an experience where you naturally interact with each other while I gently guide you along the way.

Presley and Aiden made that easy.

They naturally reached for each other’s hands. They joked back and forth. They smiled before I ever asked them to. There were moments when I barely needed to say anything because they were already enjoying being together.

Those are often the moments couples end up loving the most. Instead of feeling overly posed, their gallery reflects who they are when they’re simply spending time together.

What They Wore for Their Cape Cod Beach Photos

One of my favorite details from this session was how effortlessly Presley and Aiden’s outfits complemented the beach without matching it too closely.

Presley chose a soft blue and white dress from Altar’d State that moved beautifully in the ocean breeze. The colors echoed the shoreline without blending into it, while the flow of the dress added movement to many of their portraits.

Aiden kept things classic with a light blue button-down shirt and khaki pants. His outfit felt timeless and coordinated perfectly with Presley’s without looking overly planned.

Together, their clothing felt relaxed, polished, and perfect for a summer evening on Cape Cod.

Why I Don’t Believe Every Couple Should Go to the Same Beach

One question I hear fairly often is which beach is “the best” for engagement photos. The answer is that there isn’t one.

The best location is the one that fits your personalities and your vision for the session.

Some couples love dramatic dunes and long walks along the shoreline. Others want gentle waves close to parking because they’re bringing grandparents or young children. Some want iconic Cape Cod scenery, while others care more about privacy than recognizable landmarks.

That’s why every engagement session begins with a conversation. We’ll talk about what kind of experience you’re hoping for, how far you’re want to walk, whether accessibility is important, and what scenery feels most like you. From there, I’ll recommend locations that fit those goals.

Sometimes that means photographing at a well-known Cape Cod beach. Other times, like Presley and Aiden’s session, it means choosing somewhere quieter that gives you room to simply enjoy the evening together.

Sunset Makes All the Difference for Cape Cod Beach Photos

If you’ve looked through my portfolio, you’ve probably noticed that many of my beach sessions happen close to sunset. That’s not by accident.

The hour before the sun dips below the horizon offers some of the softest, most flattering light of the day. Instead of harsh shadows and bright midday sun, everything feels warmer and more relaxed. Skin tones look natural, the water reflects beautiful color, and the beach becomes noticeably quieter.

That timing was perfect for Presley and Aiden’s engagement session.

As the evening went on, they became even more comfortable in front of the camera. They weren’t thinking about posing anymore. They were simply spending time together, walking along the shoreline, laughing, and soaking in one of their last summers before becoming husband and wife.

Those are the moments that make my favorite photographs.

Choose a location that fits your personalities. 

The most popular beach isn’t always the best choice. Some couples love lively beaches with lots of activity, while others feel much more comfortable somewhere peaceful.

Dress for movement. 

Flowy dresses photograph beautifully in the ocean breeze, while light, classic clothing keeps the focus on the two of you instead of bold patterns or logos.

Be prepared to walk a little. 

Some of my favorite Cape Cod locations require a short walk to reach the best scenery. I’ll always let you know what to expect ahead of time so you can choose a location that feels comfortable.

Trust the process. 

Most couples tell me they’re nervous before we begin. Almost every one of them also tells me afterward that it felt much easier than they expected. My job is to guide you every step of the way so you never have to wonder what to do next.
